Can a Muslim work in place that sells alcohol?
A Muslim who owns a shop or restaurant is not permitted to sell alcohol to other Muslims. (Quran 2:219, 5:91; Muṣannaf ʿAbd al-Razzāq al-Ṣanʿānī, 9:238; Al-Kāfī 6: 398) However, it is permitted for the owner to sell alcohol to non-Muslims because they are allowed to consume it. As for a Muslim who does not own a shop/restaurant, but works is a shop/restaurant that serves alcohol, he or she is permitted to sell or serve alcohol provided that the primary purpose is not to sell or serve alcohol. In both cases, however, it is preferable to avoid selling alcohol due to the social vices associated with it.
