Can a Muslim take employment in an environment where they are required to mix with the opposite gender?

It is permissible to work in an environment where there is interaction between opposite genders provided that the boundaries stipulated by Sharia are not transgressed?

With regards to women in particular, although Sharia does not require women to contribute financially in a family unit, it is widely acknowledged that women’s contribution in the work place provides immense benefits to the wider community. For example, it is important to have women working in areas such as education, healthcare, and law enforcement so that they can provide vital services required by other women. Therefore, women are permitted to work in an environment that involves mixing with the opposite gender provided that they maintain the Islamic dress code. The Sharia has laid down rules for interaction between genders implying that such interactions are allowed, since had it been absolutely prohibited, there would have been no prescribed conditions and guidance in the Qur’an
