Can there be another Prophet after Prophet Muhammad?
The Quran, sunna, and ijma (consensus) of the entire Muslim community is in agreement that the Prophet Muhammad is the seal of the prophets and there can be no prophet after him. The revelation (wahy) from Allah came to an end with Prophet Muhammad who was tasked with completing and perfecting the religion. Allah attests to this in the Quran, “This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion” (5:3) leaving no room for another messenger or for any further revelation.
Muslims theologically uphold that God sent prophets to impart His message to mankind and reinforce true teachings of earlier revelations that were not preserved accurately and had been subjected to human corruption. Quran 15:9 indicates that when it comes to the Quran, God Himself has taken the responsibility of its preservation so that it can provide guidance to mankind until the day of judgment. As such, since the Quran is complete (insofar as it also encompasses the message of earlier revelations) and preserved incorruptibly, there seems no need for God to send another messenger. The propagation and interpretation of Islam following the Prophet is carried out by the imams, companions, successors and scholars of religion.
